Project Brief
Neal’s Yard Remedies manufacture a wide range of organic health and beauty products at their production facility in Gillingham, Dorset. They installed a large and spacious laboratory as part of their extensive expansion project in March 2016.
Kastner worked with the laboratory staff, the production team and the building contractors to ensure that the laboratory facility was installed on time and within budget. From the initial concept drawings through to the finalised CAD visuals Neal’s Yard personnel and the Kastner furniture design team worked closely together, sharing ideas to create a space that was functional, attractive and a pleasure to work in.
Ergonomic Approach
Ergonomic considerations, storage requirements, lighting and work flow were discussed, and the layout utilized features such as adjustable height tables, wall cupboards, reagent shelving with integral electrical dado trunking and power sockets, and resin sinks with a glass splashback to separate wet and dry areas.
Sinks & Taps
Both hot and cold swan-neck laboratory taps were fitted, linking up to the water and drainage that had already been provided in the concrete floor. The colour scheme for the cupboards and mobile storage units was chosen from the wide range available within the Kastner laboratory furniture palette.
Finally, Kastner completed the installation with a range of items of laboratory equipment including incubators, balances etc. demonstrating the advantage of being able to purchase the laboratory furniture and the equipment from a single source.
